Happy National Pi Day!

Happy Pi day everyone!! You heard it right, it’s Pi day! No, I don’t mean pie, I mean Pi! Pi is represented in the greek letter π. Pi is the mathematical constant that is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter which is approximately equal to 3.14159. If you hadn’t noticed already here it is 3.14. Today is March 14th or 3/14, see it now?
Pi day is an annual celebration celebrated on March 14th. Which is also Albert Einstein’s birthday. But who created Pi day? In 1988 Pi day was founded by Larry Shaw, who at the time was an employee of the San Francisco, California Science Museum, the Exploratorium. Then in 2009, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution to recognize Pi day. The term Pi has been around for thousands of years, but it started to be known by the Greek letter in the 1700s. Philologist William Jones began using the symbol in 1706, but it was popularized by mathematician Leonhard Euler.
But unless you’re a mathematician or scientist, you probably don’t encounter pi very often. But pi is essential for calculations in math, engineering, construction, physics, and space exploration! So pi is pretty important. Pi is an infinite number as its exact value can never be calculated, and it doesn’t seem to have a pattern.
Whether you’re a math enthusiast or just love Pi, you can celebrate today by learning more about the number, telling a silly joke, eating some yummy Pi(e), or playing games where you can bake in-game pies! Hope you enjoyed this article! Once again Happy Pi Day!!
