The Seaweed Blob

Have you heard of the seaweed blob?! Well if you haven’t, it’s a 5000 mile wide “blob” of seaweed and algae bloom that has gathered in the Atlantic Ocean it has hit the coast of Florida and is now drifting toward the Gulf of Mexico. There is an estimated 13 million tons of seaweed. Dubbed The Great Atlantic Sargassum belt . It is twice the width of the continental United States, and can be seen from space! Can you imagine all the sea creatures living in that “blob”. Seaweed is important in the food chain because it provides food and shelter for those who are lower on the pyramid. When the seaweed eventually hits shores and dries the creatures living in it will most likely die.
