Election results are in, but WHAT do they mean for our city?

Elections! Something we all hear and learn about, but don’t understand until we’re 18 and over. But what are the polls about, why do we need them? First, let’s start with some history. It all started back in January 1789. Congress set the date January 7th, 1789 to be the date on which states are required to choose electors for the country’s first-ever presidential election. After about a month on February 4th George Washington was elected president and was sworn into office on April 30th, 1789. Since a president can rule 4 years, that means that there have been 59 presidential elections out of 233 years since it started. But why do we even need these elections in the first palace?
Elections only happen because of voting. Voting plays a crucial role in the election system. People have options to either go to voting polls that are held around the city, vote by mailing their ballot, vote early, or vote by dropping off their ballot in person. All these are ways that people use to cast their votes and state their opinion. Then once you finish voting, the person in charge of the ballots sends them to a secure location and there is a live video feed to the ballot tabulation room for every county. Once the counting is finished they tally up all the votes and post the results for the election. This is how we find out who wins our elections.
But that’s enough about voting systems let’s take about the real reason we’re here. Results. Recently we found out the results for our Mayor, Governor, Attorney General, and L.A. County Sheriff. For our mayor, Karan Bass won with 54.8% of the votes. For Governor ,we have Gavin Newsom with 59.2% of the votes. For Attorney General, we have Rob Bonta with 59.1% of the votes. Finally, for L.A. County Sheriff we have Robert Luna with 61.3% of the votes.
I hope that these new leaders will help change what California, Los Angeles, and San Pedro are today and give it a brighter future. It isn’t clear now what will happen, but all we can do is hope for the best. Until next time, I hope you enjoyed this article. Stay tuned for more political articles!
